Minecraft 1.19.40 Update is now available on Bedrock edition as of Tuesday, October 25th 2022.
This update includes several bug and parity fixes along with a few additions to the Bedrock edition. Let’s look at the biggest updates that will likely impact your gameplay.
Ancient city mob spawning
This is a bug fix, now hostile mobs correctly no longer spawn in ancient cities except the Warden. This will make sneaking around in ancient cities and avoiding the Warden from spawning a little easier as you will no longer accidentally summon the Warden by fighting off other mobs.
Wither Skeleton farming added to Bedrock
Wither Skeletons can now spawn on blocks with a whither rose. Wither Skeletons are the only mob that can spawn on a block containing a wither rose. Now it’s finally possible to make a good Wither Skeleton farm in Bedrock edition.
To craft a Wither Skeleton farm:
- build the farm within the boundary of a Nether Fortress
- make all blocks non-spawnable within the farm area
- place dirt blocks with Wither Roses where you want the Wither Skeletons to spawn
- attract the Wither Skeletons to a kill area
Wither Skeletons naturally want to kill Piglins, so using a Piglin as bait to attract the Wither Skeletons to a kill area is one of the best strategies. Be sure to select a Piglin holding a sword and not a bow and make sure the Piglin is just out of reach from the Wither Skeletons.

Scaffolding used as furnace fuel
Scaffolding now smelts items at the same rate as bamboo which is 1/4th of an item. Scaffolding is no longer as good of a fuel for furnaces as it previously was. This will definitely nerf a scaffolding powered auto smelter in your world if you have one.
Librarian villager trading added cursed books
Librarian villagers can now trade enchanted books containing curses, the Curse of Vanishing and the Curse of Binding have been added to available pool of possible trades. This might make trading with librarian villagers more difficult to get good trades as there are a greater number of books in total and the cursed books will largely useless.
Diagonal sprinting with keyboards
Keyboard users, or basically the majority of people playing Minecraft Bedrock on Windows can now sprint diagonally. This is a nice addition to the game, definitely take advantage of this and start sprinting diagonally.
Sweet berries on farmland
Sweet berries can now be planted on Farmland blocks. This is just an aesthetic update but now farming looks even better.
